VERTEBRANE - ENTER THE MATRIX
"Vertebrane" is the term for a speculative brain-computer interface technology first proposed by Marshall Brain in the book Manna. The technology consists of a computer system packaged as a replacement for one of the upper cervical vertebra in the human spine.
The Vertebrane system taps into all sensory and motor nerve bundles flowing to and from the brain. Vertebrane allows for augmented reality or a complete disconnection of the brain from the biological body and subsequent electronic reconnection to a virtual body typically inhabiting a virtual world. It would be the "ultimate videogame controller."
Interestingly, your avatar's body and senses will actually be better than your natural senses in many ways. For example, your virtual eyes will have the same resolution, however there will be no distortion from a imperfect biological lenses, you will never have to blink, your eyes will never dry out, or cloud up. Your muscles will be perfect - never tiring or overheating - unless you adjust the settings so they do. Your virtual body will be superhuman, perfect, and beautiful. The virtual worlds you visit will out-do "reality" in every way, and they will be every bit as real to your brain.

Vertebrane allows for augmented reality or a complete disconnection of the brain from the biological body and subsequent electronic reconnection to a virtual body typically inhabiting a virtual world. It would be the "ultimate videogame controller."
Everything you enjoy about the real world and your real body it will be possible to duplicate exactly in the virtual environment. It will also be possible to improve everything you enjoy, and make virtually (pun intended) anything that was once impossible, possible for you.
The Vertebrane system itself would consist of a diminutive, yet extremely powerful nanocomputer. Power would come from a small onboard fuel cell that uses blood glucose to generate electricity. The system would be installed by a robotic surgeon which would sever the spinal cord and reroute it into the Vertebrane. All sensory nerve pathways (optic, auditory etc.) would be tapped into the system. In pass-through mode, the Vertebrane would act as if it was not there, and you would be able to function completely normally. In "game" mode, the vertebrane would disconnect your brain from your body and reconnect it to your virtual avatar. The avatar would have all of the approximately 640 muscles as your real body, and your brain would control them all in the exact same manner it controls your biological muscles. The avatar would have virtual senses to replace all of your natural senses. This would create a completely immersive experience, and when in use, you would live inside a virtual reality every bit as real as the "real" world itself.
Interestingly, your avatar's body and senses will actually be better than your natural senses in many ways. For example, your virtual eyes will have the same resolution, however there will be no distortion from a imperfect biological lenses, you will never have to blink, your eyes will never dry out, or cloud up. The virtual worlds you visit will out-do "reality" in every way, and they will be every bit as real to your brain.
"The in-game world will match your in-game body. It will surpass reality. Imagine, for example, looking at a grassy field in a game. As you walk onto the field it will be perfect. Each blade of grass will be perfectly formed. It will have no weeds. You will be able, if you choose, to take your clothes off and roll in this perfect grass. It will feel just like grass, smell like grass, bounce like grass, taste like grass. But this is a simulated world, so if you want it one inch thicker or a slightly different shade of green, the change is instant. Change the breed of the grass, the moisture content, the soil underneath it, even add weeds if you want. To your brain the grass will be completely real because the grass's sensations are flowing directly through the brain's natural sensory nerve channels.
The same will be true of every in-game environment you experience. Run through a forest. Ski down a mountain. Stroll through a complete re-creation of Paris. Walk on the moon. Swim along a perfectly simulated coral reef.
But in addition, you will be able to do things that your physical body cannot possibly do now. Fly through the air like superman. Ride a magic carpet. Get shot at the OK Corral and then respawn to do it again." - Marshall Brain

With Vertebrane, you will be able to visit any simulated location instantly - even imaginary worlds. You will also have the option of visiting different times as well as different places. You will be able to fly, be present at any historical moment, be wealthy without limit, be as beautiful as you want, die and be reborn, eat anything you like in any quantity, or just sit on a tropical beach and sunbathe - all without ever leaving home! In short, you can be anyone and do anything you like. You are absolute omnipotence in your own simulated paradise where even logic can be infinitely manipulated! You can choose to have these experiences with your friends and family, or with artificial people, or simply alone.
The Day You Discard Your Body:
Given the choice of being in your real body vs. your avatar, you will choose your avatar every time. Therefore, your biological body will become redundant and irrelevant. It will become possible to discard your body and have only your brain housed in a Brain Storage Facility, connected to a vertebrane-type computer. Here, along with thousands of other brains, your brain will be encased in a protective, liquid-filled life-support system chamber. This will eliminate all of the risks that come along with having a body. It will also greatly increase longevity by keeping the environmental conditions perpetually at ideal levels, and removing almost all risk factors of your previous life. Brain Storage Facilities will be maximum security, reinforced buildings, impervious to earthquakes, hurricanes, bombs, etc.

Kardashev Scale comparisons in some fiction
Kardashev Scale
A type 10 have infinite mastery of infinite consciousness itself and thus everything as well. Infinite number of infinite minds in unison
And type infinity, is just too great!
NOTE: There are endless levels of endless hierarchies of endless hierarchies, etc.. of levels beyond the type infinities. In fact Type Omephtualities <<<< or to say in an easy manner, type everything beyond, everything beyond, etc... infinite infinities civilizations are just the tip of the iceberg! Minds blown here.
Hey guys,A type 7 are macroversal plus masters. They have infinite control etc.. upon all beyond infinite macroverses, omegaverses, and all verses and dimensions possibly. Infinite omni gods.
Not sure if you know what the Kardashev scale is so I will briefly tell you what it is then state my opinions...
The Kardashev scale outlines advanced civilizations from type 1, 2, 3 and some physicists even added a 4 and 5 and even a 6th.. The types are only based on energy they're able to utilize.
A type 1 civilization is one that can harness the energy of their entire planet. They can control their weather, control volcano's, control earthquakes, influence flora and fauna, basically be able to control the whole planet.
A type 2 civilization is one that can harness the energy of their entire star (sun). A type 2 is practically immortal being able to survive everything known to science. They can move their planet, they can obliterate an asteroid before it hits Earth, they have dyson spheres, they are basically an interstellar civilization. (think star trek...)
A type 3 is a Galactic Civilization. They can harness the energy of their entire Galaxy. You can do practically anything, merge star systems, create stars, move planets, absorb supernovae, etc... (Think Star Wars except without the wars and slavery and all that....)
A type 4 is a Universal Civilization. As you probably can't even imagine they can control their whole universe... (more powerful than the Ancients, but less than the Q) It would also be capable of projects of gargantuan proportions, such as manipulating space-time and tinkering with entropy, thus reaching immortality on a grand scale. An essentially indestructible and highly utopian civilization.
A type 5 is a multi-verse Civilization. They are a type 4 on steroids... being able to harness energy from multiple universes, (although a civilization this advanced to me, would probably use zero point energy probably like project Arcturus the ancients tried to do yet failed.) I don't even know what you could have that would require so much energy, even the Death Star wouldn't require .0001% of the energy of the multi-verse's.
A type 6 well... The type VI exists outside of time and space, and is capable of creating universes and multiverses, and destroying them just as easily. They are masters of the omniverse. It’s similar in concept to a deity, (way more powerful than the Q, I'd imagine...) I don't even know what you could do for fun here... I think it'd get boring pretty quick...
More info on these can be found here: http://www.veronicasicoe.com/blog/20...-scale-0-to-6/ or you could just google search Kardashev scale.
So first question, do you think we will ever even reach a type 1? If so do you think we'll reach a type 2? Once we reach that we're practically invulnerable...
Now to Stargate how would you rate the following using the Kardashev scale...
Ancients- I would rate them as a type 3, I think its safe to say since they had Dakara and spread life throughout the Galaxy. Although they couldn't make most of their advanced technology even work, like the project Arcturus and they couldn't even kill the Wraith, a type 3 should've been able too... I am in between a type 2 and 3 for them... Regardless of the fact that they "ascended"
Asgard- I would rate them as a type 2, I would say 3 but they didn't really have a galactic civilization, they may have been able to go to other galaxies but that doesn't mean you control your galaxy.
Gadmeer- They were the extinct race from the episode scorched earth, they were definitely a type 1, maybe a type 2 when they were living but they were a type 1.
Genii- Easy type 0, no where in the Pegasus Galaxy can reach anywhere near a type 1.
Goa'uld- I would rate them as a... type 1. They didn't really control any star systems or even understand physics on that level. They stole everything and adapted it to their needs, they were advanced yes, but not as much as the Tollans or the Asgard...
Furlings- I would rate them as a type 2 based on what we know. We know that they were one of the four great races with the Asgard, Nox and the Ancients. They seem advanced enough although they could've been only a type 1... A lot is unknown about them.
Nox- I would rate them as a type 2, we don't really know the scale of the Nox but they were definitely a type 1, I am just giving them the benefit of the doubt here...
Ori- I would rate them as a type 3, they did control their original galaxy where they were before they found out about us through Vala and Daniel. They were definitely more powerful than the ancients were in their galaxy.
Serrakin- Gotta love them, the space race people. They are easily a type 1 on their way to type 2. They could be a type 2, but I didn't see any indication that they were already there.
Spirits- From the native american's planet, I forget the main native american males name. I would consider them a type 1, they were definitely advanced enough to be that.
Tollans- I would rate them as a type 1, considering they couldn't even save their original planet from the volcano and from getting knocked out of its orbit. A type 1 could prevent a volcano but as we know from Enigma they left their planet before the volcano and when the SGC first checked on the planet before sending in SG-1, Carter said none of that was even happening, so I feel safe rating them as a type 1.
Wraith- Type 3 would sound right since they did control their galaxy, but they didn't have the energy of their galaxy. They ruled by fear and by killing off worlds before they could even have a chance to defend themselves, some were exceptions like Ronon's planet but they still weren't on our scale here on Earth and we're only a type 0.7....
How would you rate them or do you agree with me on them? Feel free to add races too, I think I covered most though, others I didn't include I would rate as a type 0 like us
Outside of Stargate I'll include some others...
Star Trek-
Earth- I would say is a type 1, we didn't have dyson spheres yet, but we could be classified as a type 2. For Star Trek Enterprise I would definitely say a type 1, but I hadn't watched the others enough to say for sure a type 2 status... Based on the interstellar travel its easy to say type 2, but that doesn't necessarily cut it...
Klingons- On their way to a type 2 same with the Romulans... Just because your space faring doesn't make you a type 2 automatically... It is based on energy.
Q- are an easy type 5 or even 6, from what they say and from what Quinn said, it sounds like type 5 and type 4 respectively. Quinn, the Q that committed suicide said they weren't as omnipotent as they wanted us to think, that makes them sound like a type 4 to me...
Andorian/Vulcan- Seem to be on par. I would say type 2 based on technology and they are both above us, did they have dyson spheres? I don't know but you don't need dyson spheres to be a type 2, you just need to harness the energy of your star, so there are definitely different ways to harness the energy other than making dyson spheres...
Xindi- They may have been a type 2 but they were mostly a coalition rather than a complete empire. There were multiple races involved in the Xindi although the Aquatics were definitely more advanced than the rest of the Xindi...
Halo-
Earth- I would say we're an early type 2, possibly.
Covenant- I would say are a type 2 as well. I don't think they were really at Type 3 status. I would think a type 3 would be easily able to defeat a type 2, but of course depending on that civilization, a type 2 can defeat a type 3, theoretically...
Forerunners- I would say they're easily a type 3, they had over what 3 million planets in their control before being eliminated... They were an easy galactic civilization with mega-structures and all that good stuff, easily a type 3 on their way to being a type 4, although using their scale vs the Kardashev they may have been a type 4...
Precursors- I would say a type 3 or 4, I don't know much about them and I don't we know much about them period, so I would say type 3 that is me giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Star Wars-
The Empire/Republic- they're easily a type 3 civilization. They were galactic so as a whole I would rate them as a type 3.
